General manager Edwin van der Sar sees no pattern in the problems that are piling up at Ajax quickly.
On Friday it was announced that goalkeeper André Onana is not allowed to take action for twelve months due to a doping suspension, one of the many setbacks that the team from Amsterdam had to deal with in a short time.
Onana has been suspended because traces of the prohibited substance furosemide have been found in his urine, the final part of a turbulent week for Ajax.
On Wednesday it was announced that record purchase Sébastien Haller is not allowed to play in the Europa League this season, because he was not put on the UEFA player list in time.
In addition, it was announced this week that the transfer from Quincy Promes to Spartak Moscow is in jeopardy due to his possible involvement in a stabbing and top talent Brian Brobbey decided not to renew his expiring contract after difficult negotiations.
"All painful and very annoying", says Van der Sar when confronted with the problems.
"But I don't see any connection in it. It's not that everything goes wrong in a department. I don't see a pattern and I think that we work well and professionally. On some things you have less influence as a club."
Van der Sar also tries to continue to see the humor of the series of major setbacks, as was clear from his answer to the question whether he has considered replacing Onana as goalkeeper.
"I want to, but they have not put a tick in front of my name", the former keeper referred to the mistake made by Ajax in the Haller case.
Eredivisie leader Ajax hopes to end the dramatic week on Sunday a little positively by beating FC Utrecht in the Johan Cruijff ArenA, although the question is whether the match will continue despite the expected snowfall.
"The ArenA has assured me that the roof of our stadium can bear the expected snow," said Van der Sar.
"As always, winning is the best medicine."
