  • "I am not claiming victory but I am happy that we found this outcome with the League and the club presidents," said Maxime Saada, the boss of Canal +, interviewed this morning on RTL.

  • He estimated that now the League and the encrypted channel "have rebuilt confidence, we had a little difficult times but we are now committed to the long term and we will try to find solutions for the future".

  • But Canal + wants an overhaul of rights at the end of the season.

No bluster at Canal +.

Guest of RTL this Friday morning, Maxime Saada, the boss of the encrypted channel, said he was "initially happy for football and for Ligue 1" the day after the agreement reached with the Professional Football League concerning TV rights.

"I am not claiming victory but I am happy that we have found this outcome with the League and the club presidents," he insisted

“It's a long story between Canal + and Ligue 1 which is now 36 years old (…), we are the historical partner and we live it like that.

And there were difficult times in a relationship like in all relationships, but today I think it's a very important step it's really a new beginning, added the leader, not unhappy to end months of arm wrestling.

We are rebuilding confidence, we had a little difficult times but we are now committed to the long term and we will try to find solutions for the future.

Ligue 2 on beIN Sports?

Only, for Canal, the future goes through a new complete call for tenders at the end of the season.

And not a procedure which would only include lots 1 and 2, as envisaged by the LFP.

"I want the League to call for tenders with all the lots as quickly as possible for subsequent seasons," Saada warned.

If all the lots are put back on the market, as required by law, we will be there.

"

In the meantime, for the first time since 1999, Canal + brings together all the matches of Ligue 1 on its antenna.

"We are going to bring viewers back to Ligue 1, this is the main stake" to "restore value" to the French championship, said Maxime Saada.

For this, Canal + plans to mobilize all of its branches and "it is possible that we launch a channel for the occasion", he announced.

As for the eight Ligue 2 matches recovered in the case, "it is not excluded that they are exposed at beIN Sports", he said, while specifying that the discussions had not yet been started.
