It has been a bad start for the Norwegian ski jumpers ahead of this weekend's World Cup in Austria, Hizenbach.

Four out of five Norwegian jumpers are without their skis, among them Maren Lundby who won the overall World Cup three times before.

The Norwegian team flew from Gardermoen in Oslo, via Frankfurt and then Munich to finally land in Austria.

Even though the team arrived, it was not entirely without complications.

Eirin Kvandal was the only one whose skis came out, which means that the remaining jumpers are without.

The former world setter Maren Lundby is upset to say the least and says that she has never been involved in having to stand over a competition due to the equipment not arriving.

- It's a real setback.

We compete in the World Cup and will fight for points tomorrow.

It is quite difficult to think that we should not jump, she says to NRK.

National team manager Christian Meyer is also frustrated, he says that he felt that something would not go right already at the Norwegian airport.

- It took 20 minutes for each athlete to check in.

It was a bad experience, he says.

Crisis for Maren Lundby

For Lundby, who has not had a particularly good start to the season, each competition is extremely important, and despite the fact that there are a lot of competitions left, she risks losing a hundred points in the worst case.

- It does not look bright.

Now I do not have the best conditions before, but I have some contact with those who are in front of me.

It destroys some chances if I do not get to jump tomorrow, says Lundby.

Due to the current pandemic, fewer departures make the situation somewhat more difficult.

One of the alternatives is that the skis will be sent from Norway on Friday, which means that they would arrive in Vienna in the middle of the day.

Something that Lundby says is "a little too late".

Last resort - borrow skis from competitors

The second and, to say the least, less fun alternative means that the Norwegian ski jumpers can borrow skis from other nations, but so far the association has not received a pacifier.

No one has yet found the right length for Lundby, and even if she can borrow skis, it is completely optimal as her own skis are carefully prepared for several years.

- It's not the same thing, it's not just about changing skis.

Still, Lundby hopes that something will show up during the day.

- If it is not one hundred percent tomorrow, I hope that is enough for me to have a good experience, but now they do not seem to have anyone, she concludes.
