A member of the staff of the Grand Hyatt hotel has tested positive for covid-19 and all the tennis players and officials staying there have been placed in isolation pending the results of new tests, which will pass this Thursday, for which they have been suspended ATP Cup matches and pre-Australian Open tournaments.
Some 600 people, including tennis players and officials, will have to remain isolated until they have a negative test, since they are considered direct contacts.
In the ATP Cup Spain, with
Rafael Nadal
and
Roberto Bautista
, he had planned to play this Thursday against Greece in the group stage, and
Carlos Alcaraz
had to play in the second round of the Greta Ocean Road Open with the Portuguese
Thiago Monteiro
but the day is suspended.
The Grand Hyatt hotel includes, among others, the Spanish Alcaraz, Bautista and Pablo Carreño and the Argentine Horacio Ceballos, Marcel Granollers' doubles couple.
The sanitary protocols established by Tennis Australia establish that players considered direct contacts of a positive must remain isolated for 14 days, therefore, if applied with strict criteria, they could not participate in the Open.
The Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the tennis season, is scheduled to begin next Monday, February 8.
