Asia's largest ice surface debuts

There are 6 competition venues in the Beijing competition area, including 5 ice and one snow event venue. All ice competition venues use environmentally friendly refrigerants to make ice.

According to Huang Hui, director of the Urban Stadium Construction Office of the Beijing Major Project Construction Headquarters Office, there are 7 competition and training venues in the Beijing competition area that use carbon dioxide as a new technology for refrigeration to complete ice making.

Compared with traditional ice making technology, carbon dioxide ice making is safe and energy-saving, temperature control is accurate, and emissions are almost close to zero.

At present, all six competition venues in the Beijing competition area have completed ice and snow production.

The Capital Gymnasium is the first competition venue for the Beijing Winter Olympics to complete carbon dioxide ice production.

The only newly-built ice competition venue for the Beijing Winter Olympics, the National Speed Skating Hall "Ice Ribbon", completed the 12,000 square meter ice pouring project in January this year.

This is the first time in the history of the Olympic Games that large-scale, newest and most environmentally friendly carbon dioxide ice has been completed at one time. The ice surface of the "Ice Ribbon" is also the largest ice surface in Asia.

The three competition venues of the National Aquatics Center "Water Cube", Wukesong Gymnasium, and National Gymnasium have all completed the first ice making task.

Among them, the National Aquatics Center completed the whole process of transforming from "Water Cube" to "Ice Cube" and then from "Ice Cube" back to "Water Cube".

With the completion of ice production in the competition venues in the Beijing competition area, Beijing has become the first host city in the history of the Winter Olympics to use a new type of environmentally friendly refrigerant for ice production.

Yanqing competition area test is about to start

The Yanqing competition area of the Beijing Winter Olympics is located in the northwest of Beijing. There are 4 venues built there, including the National Alpine Ski Center and the National Snowmobile Center, 2 competition venues, and the Yanqing Winter Olympic Village and Mountain News Center 2 non-competition venues.

The venues in the Yanqing competition area have been fully completed by the end of 2020 and completed ice and snow production. The tracks have passed the international certification at one time, and related testing activities will begin soon.

The National Alpine Ski Center has built 7 alpine ski tracks that meet the Olympic standards and is currently one of the most difficult competition venues in the world.

The center’s 7 tracks and ancillary facilities have been certified by the International Ski Federation in November 2020.

The National Snowmobile and Sled Center adopts the world's top track design. It has completed ice making in September 2020 and has successfully passed the certification of the International Snowmobile and International Sled Federation.

The venues focus on sustainable use after the game

The Beijing Winter Olympics has begun to use wind and solar power from Zhangjiakou.

The Beijing Winter Olympics will be the first Olympic Games in the history of the Olympic Games to use all green and clean electricity.

According to Ding Jianming, deputy director of the Beijing Major Office, the 2022 Winter Olympics will use a large number of venues for the 2008 Summer Olympics. All competition venues are equipped with winter and summer competition functions, and the venues can be changed at any time as required.

The construction of venues for the Beijing Winter Olympics places great emphasis on post-match utilization.

In the early stage of construction, the post-match utilization and event requirements will be planned and constructed simultaneously.

Ding Jianming, for example, said that the iconic building of the Beijing Winter Olympics, the National Speed Skating Hall of 12,000 square meters of ice, can accommodate more than 2,000 people at the same time after the game to carry out all ice sports.

Shougang ski jumping platform "Snow Fei Tian" will be built into an urban square with the theme of ice and snow culture.

The Yanqing competition area plans to transform the temporary road under construction into a 5 km long public snow track. The National Snowmobile and Sled Center specially designed and built a popular experience track.

Ding Jianming said that the construction of Winter Olympic venues in Beijing and Yanqing is forming a distinctive "Beijing Plan".
