On January 18, the news came that the men's hockey World Cup will be moved from Belarus.

But since then, it has been unclear how to solve the arrangement for the championship, which begins on May 21.

The original plan was for the World Cup to be decided in the Belarusian capital Minsk and Latvian Riga.

Riga remains the organizer, but discussions have taken place with both Danish Herning and Slovak Bratislava about taking over Belarus' part of the hosting.

This afternoon, a decision will be made and then it still tends to be the entire championship in Riga, in two arenas.

- It is the strongest candidate, says IIHF's vice chairman Kalervo Kummola to SVT Sport.

The Ice Hockey World Cup is scheduled to be played from May 21 to June 6 and Sweden would have played its group game in Minsk.

The last time the World Cup was decided in Latvia was in 2006. Then Sweden won after beating the Czech Republic in the final.
