The home team Washington Capitals started the match strongly and went to a 3-0 lead.

It took until the second period before the away team woke up.

Last season's shooter king David Pastrnak, who has just recovered from a hip operation, was responsible for the two initial goals in the pick-up.

- Of course it felt good to score a goal.

I had a little trouble at the beginning of the match with getting the finish line on goal.

Once I managed to hit right with a shot, it went in.

Good to get that first goal completed, says Pastrnak.

The victory was Boston's fifth in the last six games, while Washington had to collect its first loss in regular time this season.

The Boston Bruins now have the chance to climb to the top of the Eastern Division by the middle of the week.
