  • A Prévalaye management committee met on Tuesday to discuss the expansion of the Stade Rennais training center.

  • For several months, environmental associations have been concerned about this extension on this sensitive site.

  • Stade Rennais has revised its project downwards and is considering the creation of two fields, against the five initially envisaged.

Two camps which do not speak to each other, which do not come together and which perhaps do not understand each other.

In Rennes, the extension project of the Stade Rennais training center is causing a stir.

The fault with the location of La Piverdière, nestled in the heart of the Prévalaye, a site stuck to the bypass but often presented as a reservoir of biodiversity in the Breton capital.

This Tuesday, François Pinault's club presented its first sketches to the members of the management committee.

Chaired by the elected ecologist Didier Chapellon, this body has several fierce opponents of the extension project, including several environmental defense associations.

On Sunday, they had organized a rally of "plantation rebellion" during which 500 trees were planted not far from the training center of the football club.

Contrary to what was envisaged, only two new pitches should be created, against five at the start of the project, the club said on Tuesday.

Several buildings should be built in place of the existing one in order to limit the concreteization of the land.

“Burnt wood facades and roofs, green roofs, the wood structure and bio-sourced materials” will be adopted.

The ambition of Stade Rennais is to bring together its activities in one and the same place.

Today, the training center is housed in modest premises located at the foot of Roazhon Park.

“We will regroup all the sites.

The training center will come to La Piverdière, that's our priority, ”Nicolas Holveck announced on his arrival at the club last summer.

The integration of a women's section was also under consideration.

From 11 to 15 hectares by 2023

On Monday, the president spoke on this subject at a press conference.

“The project is not finalized.

We also listen.

La Piverdière is 15 hectares out of the 150 in La Prévalaye.

We're a confetti.

But I repeat, all is not established.

We listened to the comments and we made our project evolve, which can still evolve ”.

The club presented three tracks to the management committee (see visuals above).

The ambition would be to increase the capacity of about 3.5 hectares and to go from 11.4 hectares to 15 hectares, "or 0.8% of the total area of the La Prévalaye site", specifies the club.

In his press release, he adds that Stade Rennais "has the will to reforest" and specifies that "1,000 trees will be planted and hedgerows will be developed".

The club also plans to open spaces to the public, in particular with sports and health facilities such as fitness trails or free access 5-a-side football fields.

For several weeks, voices have been raised against this extension of the Henri-Guérin center, starting with that of Mickaël Hardy, who founded the permaculture farm called PermaG'rennes and located just next door.

Very upset, the latter has often expressed his fear of seeing “allotments, agricultural plots and areas of biodiversity disappearing”.

According to the three selected projects presented, it is either agricultural land or allotment gardens that would be "absorbed" by Stade Rennais, or a bit of both.

If validated, this expansion project could be operational in 2023.

In 2019, several associations alerted the city to certain developments, including paved tracks where scooters and motorcycles massacred salamanders and newts.
