Third at Les Sables-d'Olonne, he finished first on the podium.

Yannick Bestaven won the Vendée Globe on the night from Wednesday to Thursday.

The rescue of Kévin Escoffier on November 30 allowed him to benefit from a time compensation of more than 10 hours, thus passing in front of Charlie Dalin and Louis Burton, respectively first and second to have crossed the finish line.

"I am super happy, I find it difficult to realize what we have just achieved", declared the native of Saint-Nazaire at the microphone of Europe 1, from his ship, still off Les Sables -d'Olonne after crossing the finish line.

"My first desire is to land and share this victory with friends and all the people who are there", continues the 48-year-old sailor.

"It's nice to see, despite the pandemic, boats to welcome us. It's heartwarming, after 80 days without anyone, to see a few humans for us."
