In 2018, Sebastian Samuelsson boycotted the end of the World Cup in Russia due to the widespread doping problem in the country at the same time as he feared for his own safety.

He was then clear that he suspected corruption in the IBU.

Now, three years later, the union comes out with an over 200-page independent review report to which Wada, among others, has contributed.

"Quite frankly deplorable"

Even if it really only confirms what Sebastian Samuelsson suspects, he gets upset.

- We athletes are hardest hit by this.

There are many medals that have fallen into the wrong hands and to be told that the president of the IBU has tried to protect the cheaters is downright deplorable, says Samuelsson.

Does it feel a bit like a restoration to get this on paper after you have previously gone out with your own suspicions in public?

- Yes, but a little so I would say.

Of course, I have been very clear with what I think before and received both praise and congratulations for it.

It feels a bit like 'what did I say' today?

The 74-year-old Norwegian Anders Besseberg, who held the post of chairman of the IBU 1993-2018, has had no interest in protecting the sport from cheating, the report states.

He is said to have defended Russian interests, darkened doping and most likely bought by Russian leaders through, among other things, hunting trips, luxury watches and prostitutes.

Are you surprised that it was as comprehensive as it is described?

- No not really.

It sounds sick with prostitution and things like that, but it is rumors that have passed and that you have heard before.

This is really nothing new.

"Fuck you Mr Besseberg"

A police investigation is underway against Besseberg, who denies the allegations through his lawyer.

Samuelsson hopes that the evidence holds up to convict the Norwegian and that he ends up in prison.

On Twitter, the Swedish star wrote "Fuck you Mr Besseberg" in pure anger at the old boss.

- I feel that Besseberg has destroyed for so many incredible people.

Biathlon is the sport I love and I want it to go right.

He has really strived in a different direction and then I do not think it is more than right that I should actually be allowed to express those feelings.

Today, Samuelsson, unlike three years ago, feels quite confident with the IBU's work.

- It feels like they have done a lot of change work.

They have become much better at listening to us actively and are receptive to criticism.

You try to do a good job and I think you notice that now.
