In the classic sprint in the Tour de ski came Oskar Svensson's first victory in the World Cup.

According to Oskar, the road to the top has been more crooked than he thought it would be when he moved from Falun to Östersund as a 20-year-old to enter the world top.

- I have always had high goals with where I want to go with my skiing and when I moved up I thought it would go very fast, I had a lot of confidence and thought I would take the step up to the podium right away but it became much more difficult than I thought, says Oskar Svensson to SVT Sport.

A lot of criticism of the men's team

With Oskar's victory, a four-year victory drought was broken for the Swedish men in the World Cup.

During these years, Oskar and the rest of the men's team have had to endure a lot of criticism.

- There are many years between us who have come in recent years.

If you think about Marcus Hellner and Emil Jönsson, it's almost 10 years up to them and in between there have been quite a few skiers missing.

We have been responsible for what people think Sweden should achieve, while we may have achieved what was reasonable for our age when we started going to the World Cup.

Classic sprint in the WC

Oskar thinks that it is reasonable for people to start having expectations of, among other things, himself.

And when the World Cup kicks off at the end of February in Oberstdorf, Germany, Oskar will be seen as one of the medal candidates.

- It is a classic sprint that I see as my strongest discipline so that is really what I will go for.

You do not get so many chances to run a championship so they have to go in and get in good shape and then give everything, says Oskar Svensson.
