FC Barcelona is in serious financial trouble.

The Spanish superpower has a debt of more than 1.1 billion euros, of which 730 million euros must be paid in the short term,

Marca

reported on

Monday.

The Barcelona annual report published by the Spanish sports newspaper shows that the Catalans have a debt of 266 million euros outstanding with banks and that the players still have 164 million euros in salary.

Barcelona also has yet to honor several agreements on previous transfers.

The transfer fee of no fewer than nineteen players has not yet been paid in full, including that of Frenkie de Jong.

Barcelona bought the midfielder in 2019 for 75 million euros, with up to 11 million euros in bonuses.

According to

VI

, Ajax has already received that money, because the Amsterdammers work with a financial institution that guaranteed payment at the time.

Financial director Susan Lenderink recently indicated in an extensive interview in

VI

that Ajax often works with such a construction.

Ajax has already received the money, but the intermediary is entitled to 16 million euros for the transfer of De Jong at the end of this season.

'Barça' still has to transfer a total of 48 million euros to the financial institution.

Koeman is hoping for reinforcements

Liverpool (40 million euros for Philippe Coutinho) and Atlético Madrid (5 million euros for Antoine Griezmann) are also still waiting for a lot of money.

Barcelona would soon try to make new agreements with various creditors.

Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman said last week that his team could use some reinforcement this month, but he also said that he will accept it if this is not possible.

That seems to be the case rather.

After a difficult start to the season, Koeman is now well on track at Barcelona.

The team has moved up to third place in La Liga in recent weeks, but has already lost thirteen points more than leader Atlético Madrid.
