ADO Den Haag strengthened itself in the hunt for enforcement in the Eredivisie on Monday with Youness Mokhtar.

The 29-year-old attacker is transfer-free from Columbus Crew and signs a contract for the rest of this season at the Cars Jeans Stadium.

Mokhtar has a rich past in the Netherlands as a football player.

He went through the youth academy at PSV and made his debut in professional football at FC Eindhoven in 2011.

In the following years, he also played in two periods for PEC Zwolle (2012/2013 and 2016-2018) and for FC Twente (2013-2015).

Mokhtar recently left Columbus Crew.

He won the MLS title with the American club in December.

He has also had foreign adventures with Al Nassr, Ankaragücü and Stabaek.

He played for various youth teams in the Netherlands and Morocco.

Mokhtar's commitment to ADO includes an option for an extra season.

His debut for the Hagenaars will immediately be an anniversary, because he played 149 games in the Eredivisie for the time being.

In total he stands at 250 official matches and 49 goals.

'ADO is not where it belongs'

"ADO is a great club, which is not where it belongs at the moment, but I see it as a challenge to help the team further. I have already experienced at PEC Zwolle and FC Twente how to deal with such a situation. Mokhtar says on the website of his new employer.

Mokhtar is already the sixth addition to ADO in this transfer period.

Earlier, Daryl Janmaat (transfer-free), Marko Vejinovic (transfer-free), Juan Familia-Castillo (Chelsea, rented), Tomislav Gomelt (Crotone, transfer-free), Martin Fraisl (clubless) were already registered.

ADO has to fear relegation to the Kitchen Champion Division.

The team of trainer Ruud Brood is in sixteenth place after eighteen rounds of play, which means participation in the play-offs at the end of the season.

An away match against FC Groningen awaits on Tuesday.
