Oliver Solberg ended Saturday's run with a distance victory - and he started in the same way on Sunday.

Solberg won the 12th and first leg in the class, and was fourth in total on the leg, just under 15 seconds behind reigning world champion Sebastien Ogier.

He continued with two fourth places on sections 13 and 14 in his class, and was third in the class and tenth in total in the rally before the last section.

Broke on the last stretch

Then what must not happen happened.

Barely five kilometers into the last stretch, Solberg drove off the road, and got stuck in the snow and was forced to break the rally.

Thus, there was no placement at all in the end for the 19-year-old rally promise.

- Sad ending of course for Solberg.

But the bottom line is that he has gained a lot of valuable experience from this competition.

He has nevertheless shown that he can challenge the best and is almost inhumanly fast at times.

A third place would have been a success, but it will come in the future, says SVT sports expert Jonas Kruse about Solberg's progress in the Monte Carlo rally.

The winner in the WRC2 class was now the Norwegian Andreas Mikkelsen.

One minute and 52 seconds ahead of Frenchman Adrien Fourmax.
