Schalke 04 was unable to provide a surprise in the battle for enforcement in the Bundesliga on Sunday.

Without an acquisition Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, who has not yet recovered from a calf injury, lost 0-4 at home to leader Bayern Munich.

The visitors took the lead after half an hour by Thomas Müller, who also scored the third goal deep in the second half.

The other goals were scored by Robert Lewandowski and David Alaba.

Schalke's defeat was a little less painful than in the first game this season between both clubs.

In Munich it even became 8-0 on the first match day of the new season.

The 37-year-old Huntelaar, who completed his transfer from Ajax to Schalke 04 last week, also missed the home game with relegation competitor FC Köln (1-2) on Wednesday.

Just before his transfer to Schalke, he already had a calf injury.

It is not clear whether Huntelaar will be able to play in the next match of Schalke 04.

The 'Königsblauen' will play on Saturday at 3.30 pm visiting Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga.

The Gelsenkirchen formation is stiff at the bottom of the Bundesliga with only seven points.

Schalke 04 saw competitor Mainz (seventeenth with ten points) beat RB Leipzig with 3-2 on Saturday.
