The cup, which is nothing new, has its own laws.

Sometimes, however, it can also be the lever to override laws.

At least that was what Jürgen Klopp had thought before the four-round duel in the FA Cup against Manchester United.

The turnaround should be achieved against the Red Devils, who this season are increasingly emerging as the most stubborn competitor on the way to defending their title.

In the league, the champions had last five consecutive wins: 1-1 against West Bromwich Albion, 0-0 in Newcastle, 0-1 in Southampton and 0-0 against Manchester United.

On Thursday, a 1-0 defeat against Burnley marked the first home defeat in almost four years.

My Chelsea record is hard to break

Between 2004 and 2008, Jose Mourinho's Chelsea were unbeaten in 86 home games.

Jürgen Klopp's Liverpool would have needed 18 more games to reach this record, but the current Tottenham coach congratulates the Reds.

A win against the league leaders, who had lost six points by six points, was just right to put an end to the crisis.

And it went well for Liverpool too.

Mohamed Salah scored in the 18th minute to make it 1-0 for Liverpool, which had only reached the round of 16 in the five years under Jürgen Klopp.

2016, 2017 and 2018 ended in the fourth round, in his fourth season already after the third game before he made it into the round of 16 at least once in the previous series.

Manchester's Joker Fernandes stands out

A repetition did not succeed because United provided the more effective and ultimately more efficient team in the fast game.

A week after arch-rivals in the Premier League had a goalless draw in Anfield, both teams played much more aggressively in the cup.

14:14 shots on goal were in the statistics at the end.

But Manchester had hit once more.

"We can take positive things from the game," said Klopp.

“It's good for Mo Salah, good for confidence.

It was a tough game.

We want it hard, but it wasn't enough tonight. "

Mason Greenwood (26th minute) and Marcus Rashford (48th) turned the game around.

And after Salah's second goal (58th) it was Joker Bruno Fernandes (78th), who scored a deserved victory with a free kick in the empty Old Trafford.

The Klopp-Elf could have lost even more in the entertaining and overall balanced game.

Edinson Cavani could have made it clear for Man United in the 89th minute, but hit the right post.

Of the past seven games, Liverpool only won their cup duel against Aston Villa.

And that is much more alarming than the surprisingly weak cup record.

The tough away game in London at Tottenham Hotspur awaits on Thursday.
