Former VfB player Kevin Großkreutz is ending his professional career and will play for an amateur team in the future.
"After 15 years it is time for me to say goodbye to professional football," said the 32-year-old in a video that he published on his Instagram account on Sunday.
"I hope we'll see you on the amateur sports fields," he said.
Großkreutz did not announce which club he wants to join.
According to recent media reports, he is about to move to the sixth division for TuS Bövinghausen, leader of the season 2 of the Westfalenliga.

In the 2:39 minute long video to "Family, fans, friends and all companions", Großkreutz once again looks back at his professional career.
With Borussia Dortmund, the all-rounder won the German championship twice and the DFB Cup once.

In 2014, the Dortmund player became world champion with the German national team - but without a World Cup tournament.
“Unbelievable, all these moments,” said Grosskreutz.
And: “I was allowed to live my dream.” He made a total of six international matches.

After his time at BVB he played for Galatasaray Istanbul, VfB Stuttgart, Darmstadt 98 and most recently until October 2020 for the third division club KFC Uerdingen.
“It may not have been a picture-book career,” said Großkreutz, recalling, among other things, throwing kebab on a Cologne fan.
"Now I just want to go back to where I came from, namely in amateur sports, with friends, and write the next story," said Grosskreutz.
VfB broke up with Großkreutz in early March 2017 after a nightly party tour and being involved in a fight.
