Fifa said Thursday that it would not recognize a possible European Superleague and would ban from its own competitions any player or club participating in this project, recently relaunched in the press.

Reacting to "media speculation" on the possible creation of a closed and very lucrative competition between European leaders, the world body and the six football confederations (AFC, CAF, Concacaf, Conmebol, OFC and UEFA) hammer out in a joint statement that such a tournament "would not be recognized either by Fifa or by the confederations concerned".

In fact, such remarks are a sort of declaration of war by Fifa on the big clubs, at the origin of this Superleague project: it is difficult to imagine how the World Cup could be held without all the players. of a possible European Superleague, where most of the best players in the world would play.
