The corona pandemic has hit society hard and sports are no exception.

But despite that, women's football continued to grow in 2020, according to a report from the international football association Fifa.

While the number of transfers in international men's football has dropped to levels Fifa has not seen since 2017, the number of transfers in women's football has increased.

Sports Business writes, with reference to the Fifa report, that the number of transfers in women's football was 1,035 in 2020, compared with 837 and 696 in the last two years.

This means an increase of 23.6 percent between 2019 and 2020.

Among the three largest transitions are two with a connection to Sweden.

Pernille Harder, who has a past in Linköping, tops the list.

Her transfer from German Wolfsburg to English Chelsea is the most expensive (SEK 3.6 million), which is followed by Temwa Chawinga's transfer from Damallsvenska Kvarnsveden to Chinese Wuhan Jiangda.

Third on the list is Barbra Banda's transfer from CD EDF Logroño to Shanghai FC.

The report also shows that the number of clubs on the women's side that have been involved in transfers has increased from 276 in 2019 to 349 in 2020. This is an increase of 26.4 percent.

In its report, Fifa writes that it is proof that women's football is moving towards becoming more and more professional.
