More than 1,000 people, players and leaders, flew to Australia last week to begin a two-week quarantine ahead of this year's first grand slam tournament, which starts on February 8.

A total of seven positive corona tests have been submitted, and three positive samples were received on Tuesday.

About 70 players who flew with someone infected, among them Swedish Elias Ymer, have been forced to strict quarantine, which means that they are not allowed to go outside their hotel rooms for two weeks.

The rest have to leave the hotel to train five hours a day.

"Like a prison with wifi"

The organizer has received many complaints from players in quarantine.

The Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut calls it a prison with wifi.

And world setter Novak Djokovic wants the opportunity to serve the quarantine period in private homes with a tennis court instead of in hotel rooms.

In a video conference with 500 players, tournament director Craig Tiley made it clear that no exceptions are made to the rules.

- The majority have been fantastic and supportive.

They know that this is what they have to contribute in order to then have the privilege of competing for 80 million dollars in prize money, says Tiley.

Converted to Swedish kronor, the total price sum is SEK 516 million.

Azarenka's open letter

However, Tiley admitted that it is a disadvantage for the 72 players in severe quarantine compared to the others who are allowed to practice tennis five hours a day.

- Yes, it is not entirely fair when it comes to the preparations, but we do what we can to even out the injustices.

The 13-ranked Belarusian Victoria Azarenka has in an open letter written that the players must accept and support the local health rules.

“I understand all the frustration and the feeling of injustice.

But sometimes things happen and we have to accept, adapt and move forward! ”She writes.

Some of the biggest stars, such as Djokovic, Serena Williams, Naomi Osaka and Rafael Nadal have been given the opportunity to live in Adelaide where they have been able to get hotel rooms with balconies.
