Together with cross-country skier Linn Svahn, Armand Duplantis settled for the Jerrings Prize.

The 21-year-old pole vaulter emerged victorious from the battle and received the prestigious award for the first time.

- Thanks to everyone who voted for me.

The Swedish people, I am so grateful because I feel so welcome in Sweden.

I will make you proud, says Duplantis.

Within a week of February last year, Duplantis broke two world records.

First by jumping 6.17 in Polish Torún and then by polishing his own record with a jump of 6.18 in Glasgow.

For Duplantis, it was a big slam at this year's Sports Gala.

First, his parents Helena and Greg were named coach of the year and then he received the award as male athlete of the year and the award for achievement of the year.

In addition, he got to step up on stage and receive Svenska Dagbladet's Bragdguld, a prize that was announced on 1 December.

Last year, the Jerrings Prize went to Tove Alexandersson.
