The Fifa Appeals Committee has confirmed the ten-week suspension against England international Kieran Trippier, which was pronounced before Christmas.

This means that the defender will also be out for his Spanish club Atlético Madrid until February 28.

On January 3, the world football association had initially suspended the international ban imposed for violating betting rules at the request of Atlético until the decision had now been made.

The English association FA banned the 30-year-old for ten weeks with immediate effect on December 23 and imposed a fine of around 77,000 euros on him.

Now Trippier is not available for several league games at the top club from the Primera División and will not be able to take part in the Champions League round of 16 against Chelsea on February 23.

The managing director of the Rojiblancos, Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, had criticized the ten-week suspension as "disproportionately harsh for the player and completely unfair for Atlético".

Atlético has now announced that it will go to the International Sports Court (CAS) in Lausanne and challenge the verdict again.

In addition, the Madrilenians want to request that the lock be suspended until final clarification.

Trippier is said to have committed a total of seven rule violations.

In four cases he was found guilty by the FA, the Englishman himself denies all allegations.

It concerns bets in connection with his move from Tottenham Hotspur to Atlético, which were made in July 2019.

The English association also evaluated chat logs on Trippier's cell phone during its investigation.

The professional had made the device available voluntarily.

The investigators then found clear messages that Trippier had sent to acquaintances.

When asked about a move to Atlético, the Englishman wrote, among other things: "Bet on it if you want."
