Fifa on Monday confirmed the ten-week suspension imposed at the end of December by the English Federation on Kieran Trippier, suspected of having violated the legislation governing betting.

"The Fifa Appeal Committee has rejected the appeal lodged by Atlético Madrid," where the 30-year-old English defender plays, the instance wrote in a statement.

More specifically, Fifa confirmed on Monday that the suspension pronounced by the English federation is applicable worldwide, which means that Trippier will not be able to play with his Spanish club until February 28.

He will therefore miss eight matches of the Spanish league as well as the first leg of the round of 16 of the Champions League against Chelsea, scheduled for February 23.

On December 23, Trippier was found guilty of four of the seven charges against him, relating to bets around his transfer from Tottenham to Atlético in July 2019, for around € 22 million.

According to the British press, he would have made imprudent confidences to those around him about his upcoming transfer to Spain and friends would have used it without his knowledge to place bets on this subject.

At a hearing last October, however, he refuted all of the charges against him.
