After the indoor athletics WC has been canceled due to the corona pandemic, the European Championships in Poland will be the only major championship of the indoor season.

In long jump, Sweden has great medal chances on both the women's and men's side, where both Khaddi Sagnia and Thobias Montler are among the favorites.

Not least considering that both trained well and were allowed to be injury-free during the autumn and winter.

- I have become faster and really look forward to competing again, even if it is always a bit annoying the first competition, says Khaddi Sagnia.

Focus on approach

Right now the focus is on the employee run.

There she has previously had problems but showed a clear improvement this summer and raised the personal best to 6.92.

When SVT Sport visited the two Swedish long distance stars in Friidrottens Hus in Gothenburg, Thobias Montler jumped with the help of a box so far that he was close to landing on the other side of the jumping pit.

- We have the box to find the right feeling to push the leg down from above and knock the foot down in the kick.

You get much higher up and therefore there will be much longer jumps, he says.

"Have developed it"

Montler made his season debut last weekend by running 60 meters at 6.82, a reduction of personal bests by three hundredths.

- I have developed both strength, speed and elasticity in jumping and I think it should be noticeable on the results, he says.

Khaddi Sagnia also jumped a long way in training, but without the help of a box.

Her coach Katrin Klaup measured several of the jumps and looked satisfied, but she did not want to say how far it was.

- Katrin likes to measure, but I do not want to know afterwards.

It is the competitions that count and therefore it is much more important for me in training to find the good feeling, says Sagnia.
