In view of the duel in which the leading skippers are engaged, one could almost have the impression that the Vendée Globe is just a small regatta.
But it is nevertheless a race around the globe.
And, as the leader is just over 3,100 miles from the finish, the pas de deux continues at the head of the race between Louis Burton and Charlie Dalin.
Burton first to cross the equator
Charlie Dalin thus regained the advantage over his rival with a 1.6 mile lead, or less than 3 km, in the last standings on Sunday at 4 a.m.
Burton (Bureau Vallée 2) was however the first Saturday at the start of the evening to cross the equator before being overtaken by Dalin (Apivia).
The battle of the Doldrums, an intertropical convergence zone with very uncertain wind conditions, promises to be fierce, the leading peloton now comprising six sailors who are standing within 100 nautical miles.
Ranking Sunday at 4 a.m.:
1) Charlie Dalin (FRA / Apivia) 3,189.3 miles from the finish
2) Louis Burton (FRA / Bureau Vallée 2) 1.6 miles from the first
3) Boris Herrmann (GER / Seaexplorer-Yacht Club de Monaco) 22.1 miles away
4) Thomas Rouillard (FRA / LinkedOut) at 47.7 miles
5) Yannick Bestaven (FRA / Maître Coq IV) 65.7 miles behind
