For the first time ever, Sweden will be the organizer of a world championship in freestyle discipline.

It's about skicross and snowboardcross.

- Those branches use the same infrastructure, ie the same course and the same conditions, so it feels natural that we welcome snowboardcross to Sweden and Idre Fjäll, says Eliasson Winter.

Quick jerks

It has gone extremely fast from the time it became relevant for Sweden to possibly be allowed to host the World Cup, to the fact that it could now be secured.

- In principle for one week, we have secured the event's finances through our commercial partners' trust in the sport, and in Idre Fjäll's capacity to deliver both sporting results and fine events, says Eliasson Winter.

The competitions will be held at Idre Fjäll in four weeks, 11-13 February.

But already next week there are World Cup competitions, there are benefits and synergies that will come in handy.

The economy decided

It has been an incredibly hectic time to get together in just a few days just over the five million kronor required to cover all costs.

- I hardly thought myself that it was possible when we started just under a week ago, but thanks to our partners' commitment and extremely hard work, we have managed to secure what we thought a week ago was impossible.

First China now Sweden

The Freestyle World Championships were supposed to be decided in China in February, but were canceled already at the beginning of December last year due to the corona pandemic.

The first indications were that the World Cup would be completely canceled, but then came information that Canada and Calgary would take over the world championship.

But that proposal does not include ski and snowboard cross.
