Egypt, which had started the Men's World Handball Championship well at home and behind closed doors, dominating Chile 35-29 in the opener, continued its momentum.

In the first half, the Egyptians led 20-6 against Macedonia.

The Moroccans who were playing against Portugal at the same time returned to the locker room tied (12-12).

After already losing to Algeria in their first match, the Moroccans lost again (33-20).

As for the Egyptians, they largely beat Macedonia 38-19.

At home, will Egypt regain its former glory?

She is in any case qualified for the main round.

Algeria, which narrowly won its first match against Morocco, lost to Iceland (39-24).

Already led to the 22-10 break, the Algerian players have never found the necessary resources to return to the game.

Cape Verde will not play on Sunday due to Covid-19

With two cases of Covid-19 in the Cape Verde team, the match against Germany which was to take place this Sunday has been canceled, the International Federation (IHF) announced on Saturday.

Cape Verde made the trip with 11 athletes and therefore does not have enough players.

For its very first World Cup, Cape Verde, which benefited from the expansion of the field from 24 to 32 teams for this Egyptian edition, lost Friday against Hungary (34-27) with only 11 players on the scoresheet due to numerous cases of Covid-19 in its workforce.

Cape Verde remains hopeful at this stage of being able to resume competition thanks to the arrival of reinforcements in its workforce, according to the tournament regulations adapted to the health crisis.

Additional players arriving in Egypt will be required to test negative before boarding a plane and then remain in their room until the result of a new PCR test performed upon arrival in Cairo is known.
