The second round game of the German national team at the World Cup in Egypt is about to be canceled.

The world association announced this in a statement.

The cause are two more corona cases in the team of opponents Cape Verde.

According to tournament rules, each team must have eleven healthy players, including a goalkeeper.

With the two new cases, Cape Verde only has nine actors at its disposal.

Under these circumstances the team cannot compete.

However, the Africans could theoretically nominate other players from their expanded World Cup squad and have them travel to Egypt.

"At the moment it is a clear recommendation to the team that they shouldn't make any attempts to bring the missing people from the expanded squad here," said DHB sports director Axel Kromer.

"The game against us is hardly possible."

The game would be rated 10-0 for Germany

Although numerous corona cases had already occurred in the Cape Verde team in the run-up to the tournament in Egypt, the team played its first World Cup game against Hungary (27:34) on Friday evening.

The game against Germany should actually take place on Sunday at 6 p.m.

If it fails, it would be rated 10-0 for Germany.

The Germans had won their first game 43:14 against Uruguay.
