Amanda Zahui is injured and may not be able to play basketball for several months.

She is also without both club and contract after she broke with the Russian club Dynamo Kursk.

- I have not played a match since December 17.

My agent and I agreed with the club to break the contract, says Amanda Zahui.

But the divorce took place without major complications because she was injured and needs treatment, rehabilitation and possible surgery.

- The doctors have stated that I have five different inflammations in five different ligaments in the calf and foot.

I have tried medications, various treatments and even worn a boot for several weeks, but it does not get better.

Rehab in the USA

On Monday, it's off to the US to visit a specialist in Los Angeles and investigate what needs to be done.

- I'm going to LA to get help from a doctor.

His name is Maurice and he is a specialist and used to basketball players because he takes care of many other players in both the WNBA and NBA.

Zahui reckons that it can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months to get the foot and heel tendon in order.

Free agent

Amanda Zahui has played in the American professional league, WNBA, for seven years, but now she is without a contract there as well.

- My contract with New York Liberty has expired and it will be both exciting and nervous to see how much interest is in me now.

She says she really loves New York as a city and playing for Liberty, but that she is now open to new challenges.

- As of yesterday, it is allowed for the teams in the WNBA to contact players and agents, so now I am waiting for my agent to keep me updated with what is happening.

I'm really curious about how big the interest is.

For Amanda Zahui, it is not primarily about the money.

- I am mostly looking to get to a team where I have a clear role.

It does not necessarily have to be like a starting player, but it's more about me getting to do what I'm good at, and a chance to continue to develop.

The national team has to wait

Zahui is the biggest star in the Swedish national team but she will not be able to participate in the last European Championship qualifier, against Montenegro on February 4.

- We are already ready for the European Championships and I have talked to the national team captain Marco Crespi, so now I aim to get well and come back to the European Championships this summer.

The future is important

Amanda Zahui is 27 years old, still young, as she herself says, but at the same time she points out that her career can quickly be over if she does not take care of her body.

- WNBA does not start until April with the pre-season so now I have a good chance to really take care of the body, get whole and healthy.

The most important thing is to be in good shape and ready to play for the European Championships and when the WNBA starts again, says Amanda Zahui.
