Derby County appointed Wayne Rooney as manager for the next 2.5 on Friday.
The result is that the 120-time international of England immediately ends his career as a player.
The 35-year-old Rooney has been a player / trainer of Derby since the resignation of Phillip Cocu in mid-November.
Due to the good results, the Championship club has now given him a permanent position.
In nine matches under Rooney, Derby won three times and drew four times.
Despite this, the team is still in the relegation zone.
"Our recent advance under Wayne has been accompanied by great results such as a 2-0 win over Swansea and a 4-0 win over Birmingham," said Chairman Stephen Pearce on the Derby website.
“In the nine games under Rooney, the defense has also improved enormously.
"That should form the foundation for a strong second half of the season.
Rooney played ten times for Derby this season.
Since he was also a manager himself, he no longer appeared as a player.
