Former Japan national football team Masashi Nakayama, nicknamed "Gon," will be appointed as coach at Jubilo Iwata in the old nest this season.

This was announced by Jubilo on the 13th.

Nakayama, nicknamed "Gon," is 53 years old from Fujieda City, Shizuoka Prefecture.

He played for a long time as an ace striker in Jubilo and contributed to three league titles by scoring a total of 157 points in J1.

As a representative of Japan, he participated in 53 games and scored 21 points. Especially in the 1998 World Cup France tournament against Jamaica, where Japan first participated, he scored Japan's first goal.

After that, he retired once in 2012 due to a knee injury, but three years later he belonged to the JFL = Japan Football League and returned to active duty at Azul Claro Numazu, which is now J3.

Nakayama commented, "We will do our best to support Director Suzuki for promotion to J1."

On the other hand, he commented, "I decided to stop training active players for the time being and work as a coach for Jubilo. Also, I may return to Numazu someday, but thank you for your cooperation."
