Egyptian Mayar Sharif is writing history in the Australian Open

Mayar Sharif became the first Egyptian female player to reach the main round of the Australian Open Grand Slam, the first of the four Grand Slam tournaments of the year.

Mayar, 24, ranked 128 in the world, won the third and final preliminary round qualifying for official competitions over Serbian Aleksandra Kronic, ranked 232 in the world, 6-1, 6-2.

This will be Mayar's second appearance in the major tournaments, after her participation last year at Roland Garros.
