A number defining the features of the next Barcelona club president

Barcelona club announced yesterday that its former president Juan Laporta and three other candidates have passed the first stage of running for the presidential elections, with each of them obtaining 2257 necessary signatures from the club's affiliates.

The numbers of signatures collected by each candidate showed the expected president of the club, and it is related to Laporta, who collected a large number (10272) signatures, compared to the second-place holder Font (4713), Frica (2822), and Rosso (2510).

The Catalan club indicated in a statement that the accepted candidates, in addition to Laporta, are Victor Font, Toni Frica and Emily Russo.

He added: Jordi Vary, Xavier Villajuana, Agusti Benedetto, Luis Fernandez Alla and Pierre Riera could not reach the minimum number of signatures required.

The signature counting and validation process ends next Thursday.

The club regulations stipulate that a candidate aspiring to run for the elections must collect at least 2,257 signatures necessary from the club's affiliates (fans-contributors) to become an official candidate.
