  • Like all clubs, the Girondins de Bordeaux have to deal with a catastrophic economic situation with the health crisis.

  • The leaders presented the DNCG in early December with a provisional budget with a minimum deficit of 50 million euros for this season.

  • A social plan will be put in place, it provides for the dismissal of 26 people in the coming weeks.

After Rennes, it is the turn of the Girondins de Bordeaux to communicate on their economic situation this weekend.

Internal communication.

Friday evening, an email was sent to the employees of the club to take stock as French football sinks a little deeper into the crisis every day.

Frédéric Longuépée, the club's CEO, announced a new stage in the restructuring plan put in place since last summer.

Faced with an ever greater deficit due to the management of the club for ten years, the health crisis and the conflict of TV rights with Mediapro, the Girondins will in fact lay off around twenty people in the coming weeks.

"In a context of economic difficulties of unprecedented magnitude, the club must, more than ever, find an efficient internal functioning while seeking a financial balance to ensure its survival in Ligue 1 and by pursuing its strategic projects", he writes .

A deficit of at least 50 million euros

According to information from

20 Minutes,

the club presented to the DNCG (national management control department) on December 3 a provisional budget with a deficit of 50 million euros, without taking into account at that time the related losses upon termination of Mediapro's contract.

This deficit should therefore increase further by June 30.

In this context, King Street, the American investment fund that owns the Girondins, once again vouched for.

After having recapitalized the club to the tune of 28 million euros last July, it is said that the shareholder would still have put money into the club's current account this winter.

“At least it's a form of relief for us to see that they are following for the moment, admits an employee, because with all that is happening, many are afraid that they will cut the tap overnight. .

So far, King Street has always turned it down.

The PES foresees 26 layoffs

But this catastrophic economic situation will not be without consequences.

After the establishment of a voluntary departure plan at the end of November (four employees left the club in this context), the Girondins decided to initiate a PSE (job protection plan) at the start of the year 2021. As mentioned by

Girondinfos,

this social plan provides for the dismissal of 26 employees.

The sports sector will not escape this new turn of the screw either.

If this Friday the Navy and White announced the three-year extension of Paul Baysse, the Bordeaux defender had to drastically lower his salary.

It could very quickly be the same for the rest of his teammates as the UNFP and club presidents met on Thursday to discuss a general drop in player salaries.
