Soccer J1 Cerezo Osaka has announced that it has acquired Yoshito Okubo, a former Japan national team forward who played for Tokyo Verdy in J2 last season.

Okubo is returning to Cerezo for the first time in 15 years.

Okubo is 38 years old from Fukuoka prefecture.

After graduating from Kunimi High School in Nagasaki, he was enrolled in Cerezo for six years from 2001, and then played for teams in Spain and Germany.

Since 2013, when he transferred to Kawasaki Frontale, he has been the top scorer for the third consecutive year, scoring 185 points, the highest number in J1 history.

In addition, he has participated in a total of 60 games and scored 6 goals, including being selected twice as the World Cup national team.

Okubo played 19 games in J2's Tokyo Verdy last season, but did not score.

While Cerezo boasts a solid defense, strengthening the offensive power was an issue, so we acquired Okubo, who has a wealth of experience.

It will be the first time in 15 years to return to Cerezo.

Through the club, Okubo said, "I've been doing my best with the feeling that the end of my life as a player is Cerezo Osaka. I am grateful to the club for understanding that feeling. I want to go there. "
