'Ajax will not let Álvarez leave for Valencia'

Edson Álvarez is a reserve player at Ajax, but that does not mean that the team from Amsterdam want to let him go.

Valencia has been mentioned for a while as a possible new club for the 23-year-old Mexican, who would now have been told by Ajax that he should not leave.

A year and a half ago, Álvarez was taken over for 15 million euros from Club América from his home country.

Contract with RKC not yet on the agenda for Van der Wiel

Although Gregory van der Wiel has now been fit for five months at RKC Waalwijk, a contract is not yet an option for the 32-year-old right back, the club tells NU.nl .

The former Ajax player and 46-time international announced in November that he has been struggling with panic attacks and feelings of anxiety for a long time and, partly because of this, has not yet played for RKC.

Van der Wiel, who was in the World Cup final with Orange in 2010, is still following an individual training program in Waalwijk.

Ten Hag: 'A shame that Brobbey has not yet signed up'

Just like director of football affairs Marc Overmars, Ajax coach Erik ten Hag expresses the hope that Brian Brobbey will extend his expiring contract.

"It is a shame that he has not signed up yet", says Ten Hag at the press conference at which the new striker Sébastien Haller is presented.

"Brian is a boy with Amsterdam roots. What could be better than starting a great adventure through the first team of Ajax? But in the end it is his choice. He now also has the right to talk to other clubs."

Schmidt: 'Don't be jealous of Haller's transfer'

The record transfer from Sébastien Haller to Ajax provides some extra conversation in the run-up to Sunday's top match Ajax-PSV.

PSV coach Roger Schmidt will naturally receive questions about the opponent's new striker at his press conference.

"He was a top player when he left for the Premier League from Germany. I think it's a smart transfer," said the German coach.

"Whether I am jealous? No, I am happy with my selection. And I also have new players, because Marco van Ginkel and Érick Gutiérrez are back after long injuries."

Sébastien Haller cannot wait to make his debut for Ajax.

The striker can already make his debut on Sunday in the Johan Cruijff ArenA, which he describes as a "mythical stadium".

Happy to announce my arrival at this iconic club @afcajax and i can't wait to start playing in this mythical stadium.

Overmars would like to continue with Brobbey

The arrival of Sébastien Haller seems bad news for up-and-coming talent such as Brian Brobbey, but Ajax does not intend to let the eighteen-year-old striker go.

Brobbey has an expiring contract in Amsterdam.

"We have been working on renewing his contract for a long time. We still want that very much, but so far it has not been successful", says director of football affairs Marc Overmars.

Record purchase Haller: 'Ajax has been

for months'

The interest of Ajax did not fall completely out of the blue for Sébastien Haller, who today signed a contract until mid-2025. The striker will come over from West for 22.5 million euros Ham United.

"To be fair, I had known about the interest for a few months," Haller says.

"I have always kept in touch with the coach (he had Erik ten Hag as a trainer at FC Utrecht, ed.), With whom I have a good relationship. When I knew that an agreement could be reached, I was very happy. I just had to be patient. "
