Liverpool and Aston Villa England Cup match are in danger

Liverpool's match against Aston Villa, scheduled for the FA Cup, on Friday, is threatened with delay after the latter was forced to close his training headquarters on Thursday due to the presence of several positive cases of the new Corona virus in the ranks of his players and his technical staff.

Villa issued a statement saying that "a large number of players from the first team and from the technical staff came out positive after they underwent a routine examination on Monday and entered directly into quarantine."

"Then, new tests were conducted directly and resulted in more positive cases.

"The training session was canceled Thursday in preparation for the match against Liverpool in the Federation Cup," he said, adding that "talks are underway between representatives of the club's medical staff, the League and the English Premier League."

The FA said in a statement later Thursday that it was "working with Aston Villa together to try to ensure that the match between the club and Liverpool in the third round of the England Cup takes place as scheduled at Villa Park tomorrow evening (Friday)."

He continued, "The final decision will be taken tomorrow, pending the results of additional Covid-19 tests."

Villa has become the fourth Premier League club to suffer several injuries in its ranks in the last two months, which has increased doubts about the completion of the domestic league for the 2020-2021 season.

Three matches in the English Premier League have been canceled in recent days due to many cases in the ranks of Manchester City and Fulham, while the Southampton and Shrewsbury Town match in the Cup competition was postponed on Saturday due to several injuries in the latter's ranks.

On Tuesday, the Premier League League announced that 40 new cases of coronavirus were recorded among players and members of club staff during the past week.

This number is more than double the previous record of 18 injuries last week, and it coincides with Britain entering a complete lockdown of the country to limit the spread of Covid-19.
