African Champions League draw ... Zamalek and Esperance in "Group of Death"

The draw for the CAF Champions League group stage resulted in a series of exciting matches en route to the tournament final.


The draw was held today, Friday, in Cairo, and resulted in the defending champion Al-Ahly of Egypt, in the first group, alongside Congolese Vita Club, Simba of Tanzania and Al-Merrekh of Sudan.


While the Congolese Mazembe came at the top of the second group, which also included Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, the Sudanese Crescent and the Algerian Youth Belouizdad.


While Moroccan Wydad came at the top of Group C, alongside the Angolan Huria, Petro Atletico and South African teams, Kaizer Chiefs.


Egyptian Zamalek, the last runner-up, came in Group D, the "Group of Death," which includes, alongside him, Tunisia's Esperance, Mouloudia of Algeria and Senegalese Tenguit.


The first round of the group stage will take place on February 12 and 13, while the group stage will be concluded on April 9 and 10.
