Professional baseball Hiroshima announced that French pitcher Geronimo Franzua, who held back last season, tested positive for the new coronavirus in the Dominican Republic.

According to the team, Pitcher Franzua was tested positive for the new coronavirus at a local medical institution on the 5th of this month in preparation for his arrival in Japan from the Dominican Republic.



Franzua is asymptomatic and in good physical condition, but he is being treated at home.

Franzua, a pitcher from the Carp Academy in the Dominican Republic, pitched in 53 games last season in his third year and contributed to the team with 19 saves from the middle of the season.



As a future response, the team will prepare for coming to Japan after performing the PCR test twice, 10 days and 14 days after January 5th, and after it becomes negative, and will perform the third PCR test again before traveling. If it is negative, it will be possible to come to Japan.
