Annika Sörenstam, Gary Player and the late Babe Didrikson Zaharias (1911-1956) were today awarded the President's Medal of Freedom in Washington.

Sörenstam and Player should have received the award already in March - but then the ceremony was canceled due to the spread of corona in the USA.

"Definitely the most distinguished award I have ever received", the Swede commented on the message then.

Whether Sörenstam was really on site and received the medal is still unclear as no photos from the ceremony have been released.

Gary Player's family, on the other hand, has posted pictures on social media from inside the White House.

Sörenstam comments on his meeting with Trump in a text message to SportExpressen earlier on Thursday.

"Yes, it will happen soon.

All is well.

Quiet and no problems ", writes Sörenstam.

Mother Teresa, Bob Dylan, Nelson Mandela and Margaret Thatcher are some of those who have been awarded the medal.

Four golfers have received the award before.

72 wins on the professional tour

Sörenstam is considered one of the very best female golfers of all time.

She took 72 victories on the American professional tour, and a total of ten majors.

In 1995, she won both the Jerring Prize and Svenska Dagbladet's gold medal.

In Sweden, she has also been awarded the HM King's medal of the eighth size in high blue ribbon.

During his long career, the 84-year-old won all four major competitions, from the British Open in 1959 to the US Masters in 1978.
