In August of last year, Paul Westphal was diagnosed with a brain tumor that this Saturday, January 2, ended his life at age 70.

Born in Torrance (California), Westphal was chosen by Boston in the 1973 draft and the following year he would
win the ring with the Celtics
.
In his third season he was traded to the Suns, where he became a star, one of the most consistent point guards in the league.
He was part of the championship's ideal five in three seasons and was an All Star five times.
In the four seasons with Arizonans (then he returned for the last of his career) he averaged 22.5 points, 51.8% from the field, 2.4 rebounds and 5.6 assists.
He accumulated a total of 823 Regular Phase games between his stints in
Boston, Phoenix, Seattle and the New York Knicks
, with a total of 12,809 points, 1,580 rebounds and 3,591 assists.
He also added 107 Playoff games.
As a coach, Westphal also had an outstanding career.
A total of 10 seasons and 646 games in charge of three different teams: Phoenix, Seattle and Sacramento, with
345 wins and 301 losses.
His most memorable stage was his first with the Suns.
In the 92-93 season, as a rookie coach after being an assistant, he led the Arizona team to the Finals, with
Charles Barkley as MVP
.
There he would end up falling to Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls (4-2).
