It was a noble African running section on the streets of Barcelona on New Year's Eve.

Ethiopian Genzebe Dibaba is the world record holder in 1500 meters (3.50.07) and holds the world record in no less than seven distances (six indoors) and was looking for Sifan Hassan's 5 km street running record of 14.44 from last year.

Dibaba opened at perfect speed and passed 2 km in 5.52, which indicated a finish time of 14.40, but the third kilometer went in 3.06 and all record plans had to be abandoned.

Dibaba reached the finish line at 15.00 and had to settle for noting the world year's best in the distance, which has had official records for a couple of years.

Geneva was most pleased with little sister Anna's second place

29-year-old Genzebe was most pleased that little sister, the completely unmerited 24-year-old Anna Dibaba, finished second on 16.02.

Congratulations dear.

I am so happy for you and the great development you have after working hard.

All my love for my little sister Anna ", Genzebe writes on Instagram and sends with a couple of happy emojis.

Hellen Obiri, reigning world champion in the 5000 meters the last two championships and also reigning terrain world champion, was looking for the Kenyan compatriot Joyciline Jepkosgei's record of 10 km street running in 29.43 from 2017.

Obiri, however, was really unlucky.

After less than a kilometer, she fell into a curve and hit the asphalt hard.

She recovered but a short while later her hare broke due to injury.

Obiri fought solo and reached the goal in 30.53.
