• Opinion: Sport, betrayed, by Vicente Salaner

Alfonso Reyes, president of the Association of Professional Basketball Players, does not leave his amazement with what happened with Thomas Heurtel.

The one who was the pivot of Real Madrid considers that Barcelona has acted with zero sensitivity with the French base.

Question.- As president of the Players Association, what is your assessment of what happened with Heurtel?

Answer.-

It seems Kafkaesque to me, I could never imagine that something similar would happen.

It is unheard of, unjustifiable, to leave a player helpless, apart from the rest of his teammates.

It has been acted with zero sensitivity.

Q.-

Barcelona argue that the player made a parallel trip to the team, that he was going to negotiate a contract.

A.-

The player was clear that he was going back and forth with the team, which is reasonable.

Negotiations must be settled in the offices, in no case can what has been done with Thomas can be done.

It is execrable.

We, from the Association of Professional Basketball Players, how could it be otherwise, we are in contact and supporting Thomas in everything he needs.

Q.-

It has also been reckless because by excluding the player, the anti-Covid bubble has been broken.

R.-

It is possible.

In the current global pandemic situation, in a non-EU country, it is foolhardy to expose the player and get him out of the team bubble.

It's a shame because they are strict protocols, requiring a lot of sacrifice.

By excluding the player, they have been able to endanger the health of their teammates and coaches, with whom they will continue training.

They have also had little sensitivity for the dates in which we are, at the doors of Christmas Eve.
