Five years later,
Iker Casillas
returns to Real Madrid, as the club itself announced on Tuesday: he will join the Real Madrid Foundation as assistant to the general manager,
Julio González Ronco
.
"Iker Casillas is a Real Madrid legend, he represents the values of our club and is the best goalkeeper in our history," the entity proclaimed in a statement in which he reviewed the merits of the former goalkeeper: "Casillas won 19 titles during the 25 years that defended our shirt: 3 European Cups, 3 Club World Cups, 2 European Super Cups, 5 Leagues, 2 King's Cups and 4 Spanish Super Cups. In Portugal, with Porto, he won 2 Leagues, 1 Cup and 1 Super Cup " .
"For Real Madrid, it is a pride to receive one of its great captains back home," concluded the text that confirmed Casillas' change of plans.
In recent months, even before the announcement of his retirement from football, Casillas had shown interest in running for the presidency of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and, despite his resignation, it was sensed that this could be his path in the future.
Now instead, he will join the board of the Real Madrid Foundation, an entity created in 1997 with projects around the world.
