Mexican

Saúl 'Canelo' Álvarez

beat Englishman

Callum Smith

by unanimous decision this Saturday

to win the super middleweight belts of the World Council and the World Boxing Association.

Álvarez received cards in favor of 119-109, 119-109 and 117-111 that reflected his superiority with what was confirmed as the best boxer of the moment without weight limit in a fight in which he went from less to more and dominated with a great repertoire of blows against an opponent who came with 27 consecutive victories, 19 by knockout.

Smith tried to take advantage of their 19-centimeter difference in height.

In the center of the ring he planted himself in the long distance, although the two remained cautious in the first round.

Álvarez began to cut off the accesses in the second round in which he made some impacts down, before an opponent with the ability to respond.

Little by little the Mexican began to take a clear advantage in the exchanges, with superb counterattacks and good defense against the English left jab.

'Canelo' shook Smith with a forehand in the fourth, from which the Englishman began to fight from behind;

At times he responded, however he lost speed and in the second half the Mexican was the only fighter in the ring.

An offensive 'rally' in the ninth round, nice combinations with the clean left hook in the 10th, and that punch combined with the right straight in the 11th extended the lead against a bloody-faced Smith but refused to give up.

The Englishman responded when he could, but he rarely could and lost the center of the World Boxing Association, which went to 'Canelo', also conqueror of the World Council belt.

Álvarez reached 54 wins with one loss and two draws and took the unbeaten one from Smith, who was left with 27 wins and one loss.

"I went thirteen months without fighting and I felt inactivity but we are happy with the work we did," said Álvarez, who plans to return in February in a possible fight in Mexico.
