As recently as yesterday, the American Samuel Dupratt crashed during a downhill training and had to be taken urgently to hospital.

Reports from Skiracing indicate that he injured one or both legs.

When it was time today for the season's first downhill race on the women's side, the accident occurred again, this time for the Austrian Nicole Schmidhofer.

The competition was interrupted for 20 minutes

The 31-year-old lost control in a curve and went straight through the safety net.

In the TV broadcast, you could not see where Schmidhofer had gone, and the competition was interrupted for a long time.

- Very scary pictures.

In one picture we see her driving out through the net.

on The Other, she is simply gone, says SVT commentator Tobias Hellman.

20 minutes after the crash, the next skier was able to go out on the hill, after Schmidhofer was lowered into a sled and the safety net was repaired.

The Austrian must have been conscious at all times and have injuries to her face, but otherwise be okay according to the circumstances.

Suter fastest

The crash was not the only one of the day.

The Italians Federica Brignone and Laura Pirovano also went out into the safety net, but they were able to get up quickly and looked to have survived unscathed.

Leading the competition is the Swiss Corinne Suter, eleven hundredths ahead of Sofia Goggia, Italy, while the Slovenian Olka Stuhec is 65 hundredths behind in third place.
