Russia excluded from international sporting participations for two years
The CAS Sports Arbitration Court announced today, Thursday, that Russia has been excluded for a period of two years from participating in major international tournaments, including the Tokyo Olympics next summer and the Winter Olympics in China in 2022, for violating anti-doping laws.
The three judges appointed by the court halved the four-year exclusion penalty proposed by the World Anti-Doping Agency (“WADA”) last year, while giving Russian athletes who had not previously been punished for doping, to participate under a neutral flag.
