Current Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp also paid tribute to Gérard Houllier, who died Monday at the age of 73.

"He's a true Liverpool legend and a true legendary coach," Klopp said on the club's website.

Without having taken the Reds to the heights where the German propelled them (a Champions League and a Premier League title), Gérard Houllier won four major trophies, including an unprecedented treble in 2001, during his six years at the head of the Mersey club during which he launched the

 Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher.

"I will never forget what this man did for me and my career", paid tribute to him on Instagram Gerrard, "devastated".

"Rest in peace Boss", "Stevie G" poured out in a message accompanied by a photo of him and Houllier hugging each other.

“He really influenced this game,” says Klopp.

He was a great coach, but also a human being who emitted a very warm feeling when you were around him.

For all of us it is a great loss and a truly sad day.

Rest in peace, Gerard Houllier 1947-2020.

" I miss him already "

“I met him before coming to Liverpool and I knew him a bit at the time,” says Klopp, who arrived at Anfield in 2015. When I arrived here, one of the first messages I received - and I didn't even know he had my number - it was from Gérard Houllier.

He really supported me from day one.

"Gerard would text me and say 'this was good ... this was bad ... I know this situation ...' and all that kind of thing, Klopp then details.

She was a really, really, really kind and sweet person.

I miss him already.
