Following the draw at UEFA headquarters, Lille learned that they would face Ajax Amsterdam in the round of 16 of the Europa League.

The two clubs met in the Champions League last year.

The Dutch won twice (3-0 in Amsterdam and 2-0 in Lille) against the Northerners.

Lille, the last French representative in the Europa League, will face Ajax Amsterdam in the round of 16 of the competition in February, according to the draw made on Monday at UEFA headquarters in Nyon (Switzerland).

The northern club, co-leader of Ligue 1 with Lyon, will host the Dutch giant, semi-finalist of the Champions League in 2019, in the first leg on February 18, and will play the return trip to Amsterdam on February 25.

Reunion

Second in its group of C3 despite a spectacular victory on the lawn of AC Milan (3-0), Lille inherited a big chunk with Ajax Amsterdam, third in its group in C1.

It will be a reunion between two clubs which faced each other in the Champions League last year.

The Dutch, who crush their national championship, had won twice (3-0 in Amsterdam and 2-0 in Lille) against the Northerners.

Great teams in the final

Among the other posters of these round of 16, Real Sociedad, leader of the Spanish league, will challenge Manchester United, eliminated from the Champions League in the group stage, in a group including Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig.

The Red Devils hardly shine in the Premier League (8th).

Arsenal, even worse off with a provisional 15th place in the Premier League, has also inherited a formidable opponent, the Portuguese giant Benfica.

Among the other big teams in the round of 16, German league leaders Leverkusen will face Young Boys Bern and Tottenham will challenge Wolfsberger.

AC Milan inherited the Red Star from Belgrade.
