As astonishing as it may sound, this peculiarity was a non-event at the time.

Very few journalists mentioned the origins of Raoul Diagne, preferring to comment on his athletic abilities.

Roaul Diagne put on the national tunic 18 times, imitated shortly after by other players from the colonies including the famous Larbi Ben Barek who quickly became a European star, often compared to the Uruguayan Andrade and the Brazilian Leonidas.
